The second edition of the “Nukleo” and “With Energy for Climate” competition is over!
For the second time, the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation in cooperation with the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw and in partnership with the Ministry of Climate and Environment organised two competitions: The Nukleo National Nuclear Energy Knowledge Competition aimed at secondary school students, and the Nukleo National Knowledge Competition on the Impact of Energy on the Environment – With Energy for the Climate, aimed at 7th and 8th grade primary school students.
The aim of the Nukleo Competition is to disseminate knowledge in the field of the peaceful use of nuclear energy and radioactivity, and consisted of three stages: a knowledge test, content and problem tasks, and a final – a presentation on a selected topic.
At the final stage, contestants had a choice of four topics to develop and present:
- consequences of abandoning the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland at different stages of this investment, i.e. a) before the start of construction, b) during construction, c) during the first year of operation of the power plant;
- preparation of press releases, addressed to the communities in the vicinity of the planned construction of the nuclear power plant. The first communiqué should address the announcement of the construction of the nuclear power plant at the location, the four subsequent communiqués should be prepared in case of an emergency situation, i.e. a sudden protest of the community after the announcement of the location of the power plant. Each of the communications should respond to the potential reasons for the local community’s opposition revealed by the opinion poll;
- to identify the most common mistakes in the press coverage and propose a substantive correction to the texts published on the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident and the 10th anniversary of the Fukushima accident;
- estimating what dose from cosmic radiation astronauts would receive during their journey to and from Mars and during their stay on that planet.
The standard of the work was very high! We are pleased to announce that:
- I PLACE and TITLE OF LAUREATE goes to Barbara Gawlik from XXVII Tadeusz Czacki High School in Warsaw,
- II PLACE and the LAUREATE TITLE goes to Nikodem Kaczprzak from Krzysztof KieślowskiSecondary School of Cinematography and Computer Science in Warsaw,
- III POINT AND TITLE OFLAUREATE goes to Wiktoria Łuczyńska from I Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Bolesława Chrobrego in Gniezno.

The aim of the “With Energy for Climate” competition is to promote topics related to climate protection and counteracting climate change, e.g. through the use of clean energy sources, such as nuclear energy or renewable energy sources. The competition consists of three stages: I. a knowledge test, II. the development of one of the proposed topics in relation to one’s local environment, III. the final – the presentation of the project one has prepared.
This year, primary school students had four topics to choose from:
- weather anomalies in your region,
- you too can fight climate change!
- sources of carbon dioxide emissions in your area,
- nuclear power plant and the NIMBY syndrome,
which had to be produced in one of the following forms: an article for the local press, a film or a scientific poster.
Year on year, the number of entries for the second stage of the competition is increasing. This year, we received as many as 101 works from all over Poland! We are pleased to announce that:
- I PLACE and TITLE OF LAUREATE goes to Aleksandra Czyż from Wł. Grabski STO Primary School No. 4 in Warsaw,
