The Atomic Forum Foundation at the “Festival of Change” at the Copernicus Science Centre

„Klimat nas zmienia”. This is the slogan of this year’s Festival of Change, organised by the Copernicus Science Centre, which explored different strategies for getting out of the climate crisis. This year’s edition of the Festival also included the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation.

On 8-10 October 2021, the Copernicus Science Centre organised the 11th edition of the Transformation Festival, whose main motto was ‘The climate is changing us’. This year’s edition was also attended by the team of our Foundation, which was represented by: Łukasz Koszuk, Zuzanna Podgórska, Anna Przybyszewska and Iwona Słonecka.

The ATOM FORUM Foundation was invited to present the ATOMLAB atomic mobile exhibition. The exhibition was divided into two parts The exhibits presented in the first part of the exhibition include a model of a nuclear power plant, a holographic pyramid or a model of a fuel cassette of a water-pressure reactor – they are an introduction to the world of atomic nuclei and nuclear technology. They introduce the principle of nuclear reactors – from the single fission of a uranium nucleus to the generation of electricity by turbines.

The demonstrations in the second part of the atomic exhibition are intended to raise awareness of the fact that ionising radiation occurs in nature and that humans are exposed to it all the time. What is more, each of us is a walking source of such radiation. We will show that everyday objects, building materials and the ground we walk on every day contain isotopes that emit ionising radiation. We will also present the principles of radiological protection. We want to convince people that radiation surrounds us and that we should not be afraid of it.
