Energy of the future at the Provincial Environmental Assembly in Bolszewo

On Friday, 11 April 2025, the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation – together with the company Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe – took part in a unique educational event: Provincial Ecological Sejmik, organised by the Mikołaj Kopernik Primary School No. 1 in Bolszewo.

This Sejmik is a continuation and extension of the locally well-known initiative of the Youth Ecological Sejmik. The event attracts schoolchildren, teachers and professionals from across the Pomeranian region. It aims to build environmental awareness, promote sustainable development and open dialogue about the impact of human activity on the environment. The programme includes expert panels, student debates, speeches by special guests and an environmental knowledge competition.

At the invitation of the organisers, the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation prepared an educational stand based on the ‘Atomlab’ exhibition, which was open for the entire duration of the Sejmik – from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Our team, consisting of Jacek Frost and Łukasz Koszuk, presented to participants what nuclear energy really is – without myths and simplifications, but in an accessible, understandable and energetic (literally!) manner.

At our stand, visitors could: take a peek inside a reactor thanks to a model of a fuel cassette, see a step-by-step model of a nuclear power plant showing the path from nuclear fission to electricity production, learn about the principles of safe radioactive waste management, understand what energy conversion is and why the efficiency of energy systems matters for the environment.

Our presence was not only to introduce nuclear technology as a modern and safe energy source, but also to highlight its role in combating the climate crisis. Low-carbon nuclear energy is an important part of the green energy transition – a topic that perfectly fitted the slogan and spirit of the Seym.

We would like to thank the organisers for the invitation and the opportunity to participate in such a valuable event. We are glad that our presence could enrich the ecological debate on the future of energy – because the future is precisely the young people we had the pleasure to meet that day in Bolszew.
