Atomic Laboratory at the inauguration of PGE Nuclear Energy Local Information Points
On 25 April this year, in the municipalities of Choczewo, Gniewino and Krokowa, PGE Energia Jądrowa SA officially launched Local Information Points for the project to build Poland’s first nuclear power plant. Representatives of the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation were also present at the opening.
The inauguration organised at the Local Information Point in Gniewino was attended, among others, by representatives of the communes in which the points were established, the authorities of the Pomorskie Voivodeship and the Management Board of PGE Energia Jądrowa SA, as well as volunteers from the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation.

Local Information Points have been in operation since July last year. In the meantime, they have been unified and equipped with multimedia tools, presenting the principles of nuclear power and details about PGE Energia Jądrowa SA’s (PGE EJ) investments.
LPI employees from the location municipalities will provide information, answer questions, accept residents’ comments and requests, and organise workshops or meetings with experts, PGE employees or the location survey contractor.

The activities of the LPI were inaugurated with a four-day Laboratory prepared by the ATOM FORUM Foundation together with the company: Smart_Lab Specialists for Good Chemistry. The demonstrations were divided into three thematic sections. Each day at the information points was dedicated to a different area of knowledge, with Foundation staff presenting demonstrations and sharing knowledge about radioactivity and nuclear energy and power at two stands: “Don’t be afraid of radiation!” and “Explore the world of positive energy!”. In turn, our Smart_Lab Colleagues convinced participants that chemistry is not only about what is poisonous and dangerous! This part of our Laboratory entitled “The universe is made of elements!” turned out to be a large portion of interesting experiments. The youngest participants were able, among other things, to take a “walk in the clouds” (and thus find out that the clouds hovering above the power station do not have to be dangerous). Our stands, set up at three information points, were visited by a large number of schoolchildren and teachers from local schools, as well as residents of the municipalities.

LPIs were created in response to the information needs of local communities. Research conducted for PGE EJ by TNS Poland shows that three out of four residents of potential nuclear power plant sites perceive the need for information and education activities.
We would like to thank all the visitors to the Laboratory, as well as the staff of the Local Information Points for the kind reception. See you soon! 🙂
