9th Wielkopolska Forum of Youth Councils

On 17 – 18 October 2011, the Association of Municipalities and Districts of Greater Poland held the 9th Wielkopolska Forum of Youth Councils. A traditional annual initiative of the SGiPW, this time it was held under the motto “Energy and the environment – what young people know about energy solutions in Wielkopolska”.

The organisers’ aim was to present to the assembled young people, all aspects of new and potential sources of energy, which in the future will be an alternative to energy from fossil fuels. Representatives of the Wielkopolska Energy Management Agency and our Foundation, represented by Łukasz Koszuk, were invited to contribute to the Forum. During a day-long workshop, they presented issues related to renewable energy sources and nuclear energy.

The wide-ranging information allowed young people to engage in a discussion about the concerns and expectations of new energy sources. All the elements of this dissertation were written down and formulated into a single position paper of the Żerków meeting, which was sent to the Prime Minister. Participants in the Forum paid particular attention to the fact that, despite both benefits and potential threats, energy sources in Wielkopolska should be adequately diversified, and when determining energy sources, decision-makers should be guided by the most favourable economic and ecological effects.

The 9th Forum of the Wielkopolska Youth Councils was held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region – Mr Marek Woźniak. Media patronage over the event was provided by Radio Merkury Poznań.
