FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation at the Science Picnic in Warsaw

On May 10, 2025, the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation took part in the 28th edition of the Science Picnic, the largest science outreach event in Poland. This year’s theme was “That’s Cosmic!”, and we were invited to join the booth of Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (Polish Nuclear Power Plants).

Our presentation for visitors included two main attractions:

  • An interactive virtual tour of a PWR-type nuclear power plant, displayed on a large touchscreen. This immersive experience allowed participants to explore how a modern nuclear power plant operates – from the inside.

  • Measurements of ionizing radiation using a scintillation detector. Visitors were able to examine natural background gamma radiation – including cosmic radiation – as well as test the radioactivity of selected food items (such as bananas and Brazil nuts) and everyday objects (e.g. uranium glass, luminescent watches).

Our stand drew great interest, and we held many conversations about the role of nuclear energy in the context of energy transition, reactor safety, and the presence of radiation in our daily lives.

The FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation was represented by: Daniel, Jacek, Łukasz, and Magnus.

We would like to thank Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe for the invitation to collaborate in promoting nuclear science, and all the visitors for their curiosity and inspiring discussions. We believe that raising public awareness about nuclear energy is essential for a responsible and sustainable energy future in Poland.
