3rd edition of knowledge competitions completed
This year, for the third time, the FORUM ATOMOWE Foundation, in cooperation with the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw and in partnership with the Ministry of Climate and Environment, organised two competitions: The Nukleo National Nuclear Energy Knowledge Competition aimed at secondary school students, and the Nukleo National Knowledge Competition on the Impact of Energy on the Environment – With Energy for the Climate, aimed at 7th and 8th grade primary school students.
The aim of the Nukleo Competition is to disseminate knowledge in the field of the peaceful use of nuclear energy and radioactivity, and it consisted of three stages: a knowledge test, content and problem tasks, and a final – a presentation of a selected topic.
At the final stage, contestants had a choice of four topics to develop and present:
- a method of producing and measuring one of three isotopes: the superheavy element Ts (Z=117) /any isotope/, excited states in the Sn-133 nucleus or the two-proton decay of the Fe-45 nucleus;
- comparison of fission and fusion nuclear power in terms of the fuel used in both technologies, safety and radioactive waste generated;
- comparison of open and closed fuel cycle in terms of advantages and disadvantages and availability of both options for Poland;
- objections and doubts concerning the selected location of the nuclear power plant and its impact on the environment, which the inhabitants of the countries participating in the transboundary consultation of the environmental report for the selected location of the first NPP in Poland may have.
The level of work was very high! We are pleased to inform that:
- 1st PLACE and the TITLE OF LAUREATE goes to Jacek Winiarczyk from the Stanislaw Staszic I High School in Lublin,
- II PLACE and the LAUREATE TITLE goes to Paweł Chruściński of XIII Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Szczecin,
- III PLACE and the LAUREATE TITLE goes to Weronika Bar from Bolesław Krzywousty Secondary School No. VIII in Wrocław.
Detailed results of the “Nukleo” competition are available at: https://forumatomowe.org/konkurs-nukleo/
The aim of the “With Energy for Climate” competition is to promote topics related to climate protection and counteracting climate change, e.g. through the use of clean energy sources such as nuclear energy or renewable energy sources. The competition consists of three stages: I. a knowledge test, II. the development of one of the proposed themes in relation to one’s local environment, and III. the final – the presentation of the project one has prepared.
This year, primary school students had four topics to choose from:
- droughts in your region,
- smart grid,
- nuclear power plant in your area,
- waste segregation,
which had to be realised in one of the permitted forms: an article for the local press, a film or a scientific poster.
Every year, the number of works submitted for the second stage of the competition is increasing. This year, we received as many as 118 works from all over Poland!
We are pleased to announce that:
- I PLACE and TITLE OF LAUREATE goes to Julia Dwulit from Primary School No. 255 Im. Cyprian Kamil Norwida in Warsaw,
- II PLACE and TITLE OF LAUREATE goes to Maja Pytel from the Viktoria Wiedeńska Private Primary School of the Varsovia Educational Foundation in Warsaw,
- III POINT AND TITLE OF LAUREATE goes to Amos Kuzia-Gonzalez from Gustaw Morcinek Primary School No. 1 in Warsaw.
